Overrated and underrated episodes?
Are there any episodes of the show that you feel are overrated?
One episode that I feel is overrated is It Girl, it appears that I am alone on this one, because to be this is a pretty bad episode to me, like why would some fashion team like want a kid to become a model or something, and the ending (not the part with Arnold because that part is the best part of the episode) is just bullshit (and hell why are the people enjoying this thing where she is like a "bad girl"? Also I think the part with the "Hat" girl came absolutely nowhere) I swear, and hell the entire episode is so stupid altogether (heck it already feels like a ripoff of Stinky Goes Hollywood), well at least the part with Eugene dressed as Helga was funny, so that's something.
Does anyone else have any? Also I'm not sure if we should talk about underrated episodes as well.

Re: Overrated and underrated episodes?
This is a good topic... hmm...
Overrated... for me, there aren't too many... but I would honestly have to say Stoop Kid. It's a good episode, don't get me wrong, but I don't think it should be considered one of "the" episodes of the show. Maybe it's because the issues of Stoop Kid speak to a lot of people who chose to shelter themselves and wanted to find the nerve to step out of their comfort zone? It's possible. I enjoy the episode but I don't see why its considered an "iconic" one.
Underrated... well, there are many lol
Eugene's Bike. Overshadowed by Downtown as Fruits which is the first half of episode 1. Pure cartoon shenanigans. When the doctors accidentally went to his room to remove his tonsils instead of treating him for his bicycle injuries (because Arnold accidentally caused the number on Eugene's door to flip over), I just about died. This whole show is great.
Longest Monday. Pretty much a 4th-grade equivalent of a warzone with all sorts of fun happening as they avoid Wolfgang "canning" them in the trash.
Crush on Teacher. SUCH A CUTE EPISODE. As a guy, I think we've all been there at some point when we were younger... I can relate - and this episode doesn't get enough mentions.
I'm sure I can think of others... but it's late and I'm going to bed haha. Plus I want others to add as well without me stealing some thunder

I like Eugene's Bike!! I am surprised it doesn't get any recognition, it's one of the funniest episodes of Season 1 (I still feel bad for Eugene)!
I agree with Stoop Kid being overrated! It isn't one of my favorites, it's alright in my opinion.

Agree on Stoop Kid being overrated. It's popularity is 100% because of how catchy the "Stoop Kid's afraid to leave his stoop" chant is. Other than that its just ok.
Longest Monday is AWESOME. I love the entire premise and Park's hide out is still one of my favorite things to visit in fic ideas lol

Most over rated episode? Helga On The Couch.
Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE Helga On The Couch but let us not deny that it's THE episode that is most talked about, and rightfully so. I personally believe it's the most raw episode of the series (Parent's day coming in second). It deserves all the hype it receives.
Most over rated episode that I dislike?
Arnold and Lila. The episode gets old too fast. With all the "Do you like me or do you like me like me?". I lowkey wish the fandom didn't give the episode so much attention but I suppose it is an important one since it's the start of Arnold's long crush on Lila.

I think 'Crabby Author' and 'Oskar Can't Read' are underrated

Under-rated... The Baseball, season one.
It's a touching episode because, as kids, I'm sure we all had a public figure (sports star, singer, actor, etc) that we admired, looked up to and wanted to be. Looking back on it after watching it again tonight... it touches on the thought no kid wants to admit: what happens when our role model fades into the sunset and isn't as big a part of your life anymore? Arnold is clearly gutted that his favourite player is retiring... and he manages to capture a piece of history: Mickey Kaline's final homerun ball...
... and instead of selfishly keeping it, he decides to give it back to Kaline. I see this gesture as a sort of ending to a chapter of Arnold's life... the rings on the binder snap shut in a most satisfactory way that is far more memorable to Arnold than simply hogging the ball for himself. Plus, the episode has some poignant moments with Arnold and Grandpa; you can see how much Grandpa admires his grandson for his selfless act.
I watched The Baseball for the first time in a long time tonight... maybe only the third time since it originally aired. And wow, did this episode REALLY hit me... the ending with Arnold entering the stadium and presenting Kaline the ball is absolutely perfect - Jim Lang's music is absolute perfection in this moment, more than any other.
This overlooked episode has probably entered my Top 5... and it was very unexpected. Yes, the animation style was still in its early stages and looks odd now but the story and emotion more than make up for it. A must-watch. God, just when I thought I couldn't love this show any more, it keeps raising the bar.

Yes, I love The Baseball too, a very touching and meaningful episode indeed... When Arnold gives Kaline the ball and he says "Thanks, kid" and Arnold says "No, thank YOU Mickey", that was really deep

Word. That exchange, while saying very little, says a lot. The Baseball is easily up there for the best ending of an episode. It manages to be emotional while avoiding being too melodramatic. Hard balance to hit but it's knocked out of the park.
As a sports fan too, its always sad to see a player we've watched for so long retire and walk off into the sunset. If Yankee Stadium honestly played this after Jeter's final at-bat, I would have bawled my eyes out lol.

Re: Overrated and underrated episodes?
haha, yea...
I also really like how in "Dangerous Lumber" they did a reverse of that, where Mickey gives Arnold the ball he hit, and then Arnold tells HIM the story of how he hit it
